Schmack BioEnergy - Akron, Ohio

The Akron, Ohio system is designed to handle 5,000 dry tons/year of biosolids (municipal sewage sludge), while producing 335 kW electricity using a GE Jenbacher engine.  This system can be expanded to digest 100% of Akron’s biosolids.  This will result in a production of approximately 1 MW electricity; while greatly reducing the space needed to treat biosolids.  Odor reduction  will continue as expansion of the Schmack ADS technology replaces the current aerobic digestion system.  In addition, the Akron facility was setup as a merchant facility with the ability to accept other waste streams. Residuals from the digester will be beneficially reused as soil amendments.
